Michelle Ryan’s character was fantastic.  I really hope they get a quality companion for the doctor before he regenerates into the next form– it will make the transition much easier because I found the next doctor to be annoying as fuck in his interview.

It was an enjoyable episode– and I would love it if The Lady Christina de Souza would have been the new companion but she is busy with the Merlin series.  I enjoyed encountering a new species, the Tritovores– aparently a fly-like race, which leads me to my more major point– I WANT TO MEET THE OTHER SENIENT SPECIES WITH EARTH ANCESTRY.  When the 9th doctor and Rose go to see the end of the Earth we meet a tree-descended sentient race.  I want more family reunions like that episode.  Or a good old fashioned time war between two of these sentient species as they travel back in time to make subtle changes to their ancestors in the effort to make the ancestors of the other race extinct.

Cephlopod descendent races trying to eliminate turtle descended races would be fine.  You could have to species descended from species that are very similar now– chickadee versus sparrow.  There are a lot of possibilities.

Somebody, comment on my post– people have got  to have great ideas about earth-origin species on earth-origin species warfare through time.  It’s like Doctor Who-bait.

Gay marriage is going to happen.  MLK Jr thought the arc of history bends towards justice.  I am not so poetic, I would phrase it more along the lines “Old people will die sooner rather than later.”  I should also note that there are a lot of old people who are on the right side of the issue.

The decision might be one I don’t approve of, and they find compelling state interest in banning of gay marriage.  There is a giant silver lining!

It opens up the way to ban fat marriage.  It is well known that fat parents have fat children.  It’s true they are not all fat, but there are also slim parents popping out porkers.  We, as a society should not have to condone fat marriage– it might be the most pressing societal need (econi-what now?).  I’m nice to fat people, but I don’t need fat people holding hands in public forcing good decent normal people to picture horrible, awkward,  flabby, fat-smacking sex.  It ain’t normal.

Now, I am a realist and I want to stress this because I fear I might be sounding a bit Draconian.  Putting on weight in college is normal, and you definitely  get a free pass for the freshmen fifteen.  We all know college kids will put anything in their mouths.

This also leads to the banning of dick-bitch weddings.  Nothing good can come out of it.  It is money wasted on gathering people together so that when the bride and groom aren’t around everyone else is taking dibs on how long it will last or listing how many guys at the wedding the bride has slept with.  We can find other excuses to drink beer.

In fact, we should in the end preserve marriage by having the two slim, completely well-adjusted, good humored people  get married (unless they’re both girls). OH, and the gold-diggers.  That (treasury) bond is sacred.

If the Iowa Supreme Court rules in favor of Varnum, then a little piece of the bombastic preachers denouncing the decision should take comfort in that it is one more roadblock to the banning of obnoxious marriage.

On my trip back home I  learned that Emile Herve Morin III was originally from Kentuky, was driving through, mistook Centerville for Des Moines, and then stayed.  I’ve decided to provide a public guide to the differences between Centerville, IA and Des Moines, IA.

In Des Moines there is a Citizen’s Odor Board.  It is a venue for citizens to protest odors from companies.  On the other hand, in Centerville bad odors are a result of a change in the wind direction.  “But what about the source?” (you ask out loud).  We have tried to fix that, but Missouri is apparently not moving.

YOU: But Troy, isn’t it unfair to expect someone to tell such  a minute difference in city government from their vehicle while driving through?

TROY:  You happen to be right, but in my defense Des Moines has an estimated 209,124 people in 2009, while Centerville had 5,924 people in the 2000 Census.

YOU:  That is only a difference of two orders of magnitude.  You need to do better.

TROY:  What about the fact that Centerville has a really large town square?

YOU: The obviousness is undeniable.

I’ve learned that I will be going there this fall for my PhD work. Knoxville is much bigger than Iowa City- which I feel is the perfect size. So while looking at the Knoxville News Sentinel I noticed an article that indicated a new Cuban restuartan opened by Miami imports has just opened on Gay Street.  In fact crack reporting has indicated that workers on Gay Street are kicking up dust.  Little Havana is even right next to a sushi restuarant.  Maybe it can feel like a small college town, we’ll see.

Or possibly a bitter-sweet, forlorning St. Valentines Day!
